Traditional Bobotie with Grass-Fed Angus Beef Mince

  • 1 kg L.A. FARMS Grass-Fed Angus Beef Mince
  • 2 slices of bread
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 onions, finely chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 tbsp curry powder
  • 1 tbsp turmeric
  • 1 tbsp ground coriander
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 tsp ground ginger
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 2 tbsp apricot jam
  • 2 tbsp vinegar
  • 1 tbsp chutney
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 eggs
  • Slivered almonds for topping
  • Bay leaves for garnish

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F).
  2. Soak the bread in the milk until it becomes mushy.
  3. In a pan, sauté the onions and garlic until translucent.
  4. Add the ground meat and cook until browned.
  5. Add all the spices, sugar, jam, vinegar, and chutney. Mix well.
  6. Squeeze the milk from the bread and add the bread to the meat mixture. Stir until well combined.
  7. Transfer the mixture to a baking dish.
  8. Beat the eggs and pour it over the meat mixture.
  9. Top with slivered almonds and bay leaves for garnish.
  10. Bake in the preheated oven for about 45 minutes or until the top is golden brown and set.
  11. Serve the Malay Halal Bobotie hot with yellow rice or bread.
